Four junctions of NH66 to get traffic signals

MAPUSA

Four critical junctions along National Highway 66 (NH-66) are set to receive traffic signals aimed at improving traffic flow and providing relief to motorists.

The installation work order has been issued for signals at Naibag in Pernem, Don Khamb in Dhargalim, Peddem in Mapusa, and opposite the Goa Medical College (GMC) in Bambolim.

Peddem junction is slated to be the first location to receive a traffic signal, expected to be operational by October 31, followed by installations at Naibag and the other junctions.

According to NH authorities, the traffic signals are intended as temporary measures while the government plans to construct vehicular underpasses at the three junctions “ Naibag, Don Khamb, and Peddem.

Jude Carvalho, Executive Engineer of the PWD (NH), stated, “We cannot have traffic signals on highways. This is a temporary arrangement. Once the underpasses are constructed, we will relocate these signals.”

In contrast, the traffic signal opposite GMC will be a permanent installation, as there is already an underpass in place.

The introduction of these traffic signals is expected to enhance safety and regulate vehicle movement at these busy intersections, significantly benefiting commuters in the region.
