Fr Romeo awarded Masters in music
PANAJI: Romeo Frutuoso Monteiro, a priest of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman has been awarded the Masters Degree (Second Level) in Sacred Liturgical Music, by the Pontifical Atheneum of St Anselm, the Benedictine-run University which specialises in liturgical and other related ecclesiastical sciences. Fr Monteiro defended his thesis on 'The Use of Musical Instruments in the Liturgy.'
This study was written under the guidance of Dom Jordi-Agusti Piqué i Collado, a well-known organist, composer and theologian from the Monastery of Monteserrata (Catalona), with Fr Ryan Fergus, acting as Censor. Fr Monteiro already has a doctorate in Canon Law from the University of St Thomas Aquinas, in Rome. He has also studied compostion at the Pontifical Institute for Sacred Music, under Maestro Silvano Presciuttini, as an extraordinary student.
Appreciating his musical talents, the authorities of St Anselm had asked Fr Romeo Monteiro along with another colleague Fr Luigi D'Elia to perform Mozart's Sonata No 24 (for Violin and Pianoforte) at the Opening of the Academic Session of the Atheneum.
