Ahead of the State Legislative Assembly polls, the State Government on Friday reduced the value added tax on petrol by 6 per cent, bringing down the fuel prices below Rs 60 per litre.
A notification in this regard was issued by the State Government slashing VAT from 15 per cent to 6 per cent, which will bring down petrol prices from Rs 62.35 per litre to nearly Rs 59.60 per litre.
After coming to power in 2012, the BJP led State Government had promised to keep petrol prices below Rs 60 per litre. But the prices had crossed the Rs 60 mark with the oil companies increasing prices by Rs 2.21.
