MARGAO
Framing of charges against former Minister Mickky Pacheco and Mathew Diniz in the Majorda casino case was postponed by the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao, after Mathew Diniz submitted before the Court that he intends to challenge the order of the Sessions Court in the High Court.
When the matter came up for hearing in the court on Tuesday, Mathew’s lawyer submitted that his client has decided to challenge the order of the Sessions Court rejecting the revision application before the High Court.
Assistant Public Prosecutor, Adv Colman Rodrigues, however, submitted before the court that Mathew should move the High Court and obtain a stay in the matter, or the JMFC should go ahead and frame charges against Mathew and Mickky at the next date of hearing.
After hearing the matter and giving time for Mathew to move the High Court, the JMFC has adjourned the case to January 19. The JMFC had earlier ordered framing of charges against both Mickky and Mathew to stand for trial in the Majorda casino case.
However, Mathew preferred an appeal before the South Goa Sessions Court, which did not find favour and the matter was again remanded back to the JMFC to frame charges against the duo.
