Buoyed by the international recognition gained from the world commemorating June 21 as ‘Yoga Day’, the Centre is in talks with global forums to now similarly get a day earmarked as ‘International Ayurveda Day’.
Union Minister of AYUSH Shripad Naik on Sunday said that the process is in final stages at international forums to celebrate ‘International Ayurveda Day’.
Ministry of AYUSH recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) to make Ayurveda, a global medicine system, he said, adding that in the MoA a clause provides for ‘International Ayurveda Day’ to be celebrated just like International Yoga Day.
Naik was speaking at the inaugural function of the International seminar on ‘Globalisation of Ayurveda’ held at Taj Vivanta in Panaji.
“The Memorandum of Agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) will boost the traditional medical system and make it global very soon,” Naik said.
Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Dr Pramod Sawant, Advisor (Ayurveda) Dr D C Katoch were also present on this occasion.
Naik said after the formation of AYUSH ministry, Indian medicinal systems are becoming popular globally.
“International Yoga Day is celebrated enthusiastically on June 21 at the international level’,” he added.
He said that so far 14 countries have started AYUSH Universities and 50 countries have information centres on Ayurveda.
At present, the ministry of AYUSH has a memorandum of understanding with 12 countries and the number will be linked in the near future, he added.
The souvenir and Ayurved Darpan Journal was released by Naik at the seminar, organised by Maha Ayurved Research and Medical Association (MARMA).
