TNS Jewellers, over the years has strived to become a name that people can reckon with. Amidst these turbulent times, they have worked hard to identify the unsung women who continue to redefine and rewrite history. This year, they are proud to recognise Frederika Menezes as the recipient of the sixth edition of 'Goa's Jewel' award for her sedulous and intransigent spirit and perseverance.
Menezes recognised her aptitude at a very tender age. When she was merely 13, she wrote her first book - The Pepperns and wars of the mind. Further, she followed that with three wonderful books, namely ” Stories in Rhyme, The Portrait and Unforgotten. She is a splendid artist herself, who loves to paint and write poetry. She can speak five languages - Konkani, Hindi, English, Norwegian and Spanish. She has composed lyrics and written songs.
It is her endeavour to spread awareness about cerebral palsy and how she doesn’t want the world to perceive it as a limitation.
In order to ensure that the most worthy person is chosen, the selection committee which comprises of Mac Vaz, Founder President ” Goa Cashew Feni Distillers and Bottlers Association; Roxana Singh, Head of Department ” Carmel College for Women; Sharah Qazi ” Department of Women & Child Development; Sangeeta Shetye ” Head, Oman Air and Jeffrey Manuel ” Master of Ceremonies.
Father Avin Carvalho, Principal ” Don Bosco School, was gracious to preside over the event. Women from various disciplines like sports, medicine, academics, music, etc have been selected for this honour. Some of the women who have won 'Goa's Jewel' previously are: Karishma Parker, Rubiya Shaikh, Katya Coelho, Akshada Bandekar and Misbah Usman Sheikh.
