Calangute Police apprehended two persons, including a tourist taxi driver, on charges of illegal possession of narcotics drugs early Tuesday morning.
In one case, the accused, a tourist taxi driver, Devesh Jairam Shirodkar (30) of Anjuna was allegedly found with illegal possession of 207 grams of ganja worth Rs 20,700. The consignment was found in his car (GA-03-T-4846).
In another case, the accused, Akhilesh Kumar (25), a native of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested with illegal possession of 865 grams of ganja worth Rs 86,500. The drugs were found in his scooter.
Police conducted the panchanama and seized the drugs. An offence was registered under the relevant NDPS Act, 1985 against the duo.
Both accused have been remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.
A Calangute police team led by PI Nolasco Raposo and assisted by PSI Vishal Mandrekar and Rajaram Bagkar, Head Constables Vinod Naik and Devidas Haldankar and Police Constables Vinay Shrivastav, Suresh Naik, Dinesh Morajkar, Rupesh Salgaonkar and Vikram Sawant conducted the raid. Further investigations are in progress.
