They claimed that as many as seven panchayat secretaries have been shunted out from Raia panchayat in the last two years and seven months. The villagers demanded to know why they were transferred when there were no allegations of corruption against them.
Addressing the media, villager Anthony Fernandes said the transfer indicates that these secretaries did not do any bidding for the government. “We demand to know why the government had transferred the secretaries, John Colaco, Sanjeev Naik, Angelico Gracias, Krishna Gawde, Sainath Padwal, Dinesh Amonkar and Vipin Korgaonkar,” Anthony said.
He demanded that the government should allow the panchayat secretaries to complete their term in office. “Secretary Vipin, who was transferred last, should be brought back to the panchayat or the current secretary Rajiv should not be transferred before his term expires,” he said.
Replying to a question, he said that the frequent transfer has affected the functioning of the panchayat. “Whenever the villagers approach the new secretary, they take the alibi that they are new to the job and need some time to go through the documents,” he said.
Anthony and other villagers have accused the BJP government for transferring the panchayat secretaries without any reason since Curtorim constituency is represented by Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco.
