A fresh landslide along the Sada–Mormugao Harbour road on Sunday evening has once again raised serious concerns about the stability of the hillside.

Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar has assured that immediate steps will be taken to protect commuters and prevent any further incidents.

Expressing concern over the latest landslide, Amonkar said the stretch remains vulnerable and warned that any delay in taking corrective measures could put lives at risk. He said the road is an important link between Sada and Mormugao Harbour, and any major collapse could completely disrupt traffic.

Amonkar said the road improvement project was taken up following a proposal by the Mormugao Port Authority in connection with the upcoming cruise terminal.

“The contractor had assured that the work would be completed before the monsoon, but that did not happen. The earlier landslide claimed one life, and now another landslide has occurred,” he said.

Amonkar said he recently inspected the site with the PWD Minister, who has called a meeting to decide the next course of action. He also pointed out that an FIR had been registered against the contractor after the earlier landslide and that the South Goa Collector had issued directions following the incident.

“The contractor should begin the work instead of making vague excuses. We are preparing an immediate action plan. Public safety is our top priority, and I am confident the government will resolve the issue at the earliest,” Amonkar said.
