As regards the legacy waste and disposal of the accumulated RDF generated during the bio-remediation process, the Goa Waste Management Corporation has submitted that the contractor engaged by the agency has signed a fresh Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the cement factory (JK Cements) for disposal of RDF.
It has been further stated that about 200 tonnes of RDF per day is being transported to this cement factory. Further, The GWMC stated that all efforts will be made to transport the accumulated RDF to cement factories.
Given that the monsoon is round the corner, the GWMC submitted before the court that suitable measures will be taken for covering of the RDF with tarpaulin so that there is no problem during the monsoons. “These statements are accepted and the contractor will have to act accordingly. Insofar as compost and inert waste is concerned, the GWMC has stated that the same will be disposed of in situ. This statement is accepted,” the High Court has observed in the order.
