As the ongoing investigation into BJP leader and mobile content creator, Sonali Phogat’s murder takes sensational twists every single day, The Goan has accessed her last movements from Gurugram to Goa.
Phogat, who shot to the limelight through the now-banned Tik Tok videos, had unsuccessfully contested the Haryana assembly elections from the crucial Adampur seat in 2019. She was assisted by Sudhir Sangwan, from Rohtak, and Sukhwinder Singh of Bhiwani for the polls.
Despite her defeat, Sangwan and Singh remained in her team with the former later rewarded as her personal assistant.
Back in Gurugram, sources said that Phogat and Sangwan lived together in a rented apartment. Sangwan had booked the flat in Green Society, in the couple's name, about three months ago.
"As per records with the owner of the apartment, Sangwan and Phogat are husband and wife. They were however barely seen in the Society and did not interact much with the residents. On August 22, both were seen leaving the Society together," sources told The Goan.
While Phogat left her car parked in the Housing Society, the couple hired a cab for the airport from where they flew to Goa on a three-day vacation. "They checked in at the resort in Anjuna on the same day. It was reportedly booked prior to their arrival. They were to stay till August 24 and then joined by a Mumbai group for some video shooting," the source said.
The couple was joined by Sukhwinder, all three of whom were seen together in Goa.
The resort, which is about 2 km from Curlies beach shack restaurant, is partially sealed for investigation. So also, the controversial shack is barred from public visits until the probe.
Her death has sparked a national debate on the rampant use of drugs in club and beachside parties in the coastal State.
The Goan has also accessed extracts of a nine-page police report which mentions that Phogat was struggling in the Ladies Restroom of Curlies for nearly two hours, before going back to the dance floor.
"On August 23, at about 9:22 am, The Police Inspector (Anjuna Police Station) received a phone call from the medical officer of St Anthony Hospital informing that one person was brought dead. That person is Sonali Phogat. After inquiries with the two aides, Sangwan and Singh who are currently undergoing custodial interrogation, it was revealed that the entire series of circumstances that had gone on prior to the death, while they were at Curlies, Sonali Phogat felt uneasiness," reads a part of the comprehensive police report.
The inquiry also stated that Sangwan went to Curlies toilet at 2:30hrs where she vomited and returned to the dance floor at his request at 4:30 am. She reportedly felt better but her condition deteriorated in the resort soon after which her aides booked a taxi to rush her to the private hospital. Phogat was already in an unconscious state and as per hospital records, she was brought dead.
Her viscera samples are yet to be sent for chemical analysis. Director General of Police Jaspal Singh told The Goan that the samples are most likely to be sent to Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Chandigarh once they receive a reply from the lab.
