After inoculating around 620 healthcare workers attached to Hospicio with Covid vaccine, the health authorities are bracing up to vaccinate frontline workers in the city from Monday.
Around 200 frontline workers shortlisted by the system for the jab will have to stand in a queue at two centres in Margao “ TB hospital atop Monte Hill and South Goa district hospital.
Hospicio Covid vaccination nodal officer, Dr Ira Almeida, said that while the centre at the TB hospital will be manned by the Hospicio team comprising doctors and staff, the district hospital centre will be handled by the officials and staff of the Margao Urban Health Centre.
“Around 100 Covid frontline workers will get a jab of the vaccine in Margao on Monday as per the plan approved by the administration. While 100 of these frontline workers will have to go to the TB hospital, the remaining workers will be called to the district hospital,” she said.
The Hospicio Covid vaccine nodal officer pointed out that the vaccination of the Hospicio healthcare workers has been successful, with around 620 healthcare workers being inoculated so far.
“A total of 683 healthcare workers had taken the jab of the vaccine at the TB hospital since the programme began last month. Of these, 620 are healthcare workers attached to the Hospicio hospital,” she said.
To a question, Dr Almeida pointed out that there may be a few healthcare workers attached to Hospicio who were left out of the vaccination programme, either because they were out of station and others who could not take the jab because of health issues. She pointed out that the 100-odd Hospicio healthcare workers, who were recently recruited, would take the jab in due course of time.
To another question, she said, “There has been no major side effects amongst the healthcare workers who were vaccinated. No doubt, some of the healthcare workers did complain of fever and body ache, but these were minor side effects.”
Dr Eddie D’Mello, who has been appointed as the officer to attend to healthcare workers suffering from major adverse reactions, told The Goan that he has not come across any worker with major adverse reactions to the vaccine.
