MARGAO
With Covid restrictions in force, the Goa Revolution Day official function at the historic Lohia Maidan on June 18 will be a low-key affair once again this year.
Saturday saw the district authorities, including the district Collector, Ruchika Katyal, IAS, Additional Collector, Surendra Naik, MMC Chief Officer, Agnelo Fernandes inspecting the Lohia Maidan ahead of the 18th June celebrations.
The inspection further assumed significance and comes against the backdrop of the ongoing renovation work of the historic maidan, where the great Indian Nationalist Dr Ram Manohar Lohia had given a clarion call to the people of Goa to rise and put an end to the Portuguese regime.
Given that the maidan is undergoing repairs, it has been decided to erect a small pandal around the statue of the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia.
Additional Collector, Surendra Naik informed that Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar will lay the wreath at the martyr memorial and pay respect to Dr Lohia along with the dignitaries invited for the function.
CO Agnelo was personally monitoring and supervising the cleanliness work at the Lohia Maidan, specially the portion around Dr Lohia’s statue, where a pandal will be erected.
