With emphasis to reduce carbon footprint in the State, the training for G20 Liaison Officers (LO) “ appointed exclusively for the G20 Summit - began in the capital city. This comes days after the delegation from New Delhi for G20 reviewed the summit preparations in Goa.
“As the works currently underway ahead of the Summit, the government is making all efforts to reduce the carbon footprint in the State,” Gavin Dias, OSD Hospitality G20, said while addressing the participants at the training program held at Sanskriti Bhavan.
The State government appointed around 100 liaison officers to undergo specialized training ahead of the G20 Summit.
These officers will play a crucial role in managing the logistical needs of delegates representing different countries during the eight meetings slated from April to July.
In the training where the officers were informed about their roles and responsibilities, an interactive session was also held wherein the participants were encouraged to ask questions pertaining to the upcoming event.
“The LOs will cater to the requirements of respective delegates and facilitate a smooth flow of events. Briefing and training concerning health, security, excursions, accommodation, and other queries were discussed in detail. The LOs will play a crucial part in facilitating bilateral discussions among the participating nations,” a senior bureaucrat from the G20 Working Committee said.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recently stated that sustainability goals and zero carbon emissions are among main topics of this upcoming event and the State will work towards negative carbon emissions. Amid ongoing G20 Presidency, the union government has laid focus on green energy.
The first G20 meeting in Goa will be held on April 17 and thousands of delegates are expected to attend the event.
