OLD GOA
Extending their support to the fast satyagraha, GAKUVED has promised to take the issue of the Old Goa structure in every nook and corner of the State so that Goans become aware of how the rich have used their influence to get licences by violating all laws.
Speaking to the satyagrahis and their supporters on the 19th day of the agitation, on Sunday, GAKUVED president Adv Suresh Palkar informed that they are going to hold meetings in the State, from Canacona to Pernem.
“In these meetings, we are going to highlight the issue of the Old Goa structure and make the Goans aware of the way laws have been openly violated to benefit the rich,” Palkar stated.
“Whenever the Save Old Goa Action Committee wants, we will be there to support the agitation be it at the village, constituency, taluka or State level. We are also willing to provide legal help to ensure that the structure is demolished,” Palkar said.
Palkar also came down heavily on the Se Old Goa panchayat authorities for trying to wash their hands off the issue by stating that the higher authorities like the TCP, ASI and others granted the licences.
“The panchayat cannot wash its hands as it is responsible to verify the ground reality. The panchayat is also aware of the conservation zones. Hence, it is equally responsible for promoting the structure,” he stated and said that all authorities right from the panchayat to the Prime Minister’s level are involved in the issue.
“Such blatant violations cannot happen without the support of the Centre,” Palkar informed while adding that it is an unpardonable act.
Congratulating the people for adopting the peaceful way of satyagraha to highlight their issue, GAKUVED vice president Ravindra Velip said that it should be continued till the structure is razed to the ground.
“Till the satyagraha goes on, there will be pressure on the authorities to act against the structure,” Velip said and stated that the panchayat secretary is equally responsible for granting permission.
“We just cannot blame only the sarpanchas and the panchas, The panchayat secretary is also equally responsible,” Velip opined.
Meanwhile, people from Madkai, Mardol, Saligao, Sangolda, Guirim and other places also extended their support to the fast satyagraha on Sunday.
A group of youth from Guirim and Sangolda parishes also participated in the satyagraha.
