Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Digambar Kamat on Sunday reacted to the ongoing controversy surrounding government recruitment and accused the Pramod Sawant government of deliberately keeping the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) dormant to manipulate giving jobs to select few candidates.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Kamat said: "With a malicious intention of manipulating results to favour select few Candidates & depriving job opportunities to deserving qualified youths, the @BJP4Goa Government deliberately kept Staff Selection Commission dormant since 2019 even after the Members have taken Oath of Office."
Recruitment drives launched by governments in election years, as is the case at present, have been a bone of contention between competing political parties for decades.
Back in 2012, it was a major issue that dominated the discourse and narrative during election campaigning. Later, when the government of the late Manohar Parrikar rode to power, it reversed some of the recruitment processes concluded by the predecessor Digambar Kamat government.
Presently, the Sawant government is in the throes of a major controversy with MLAs of the ruling BJP itself questioning the fairness and even alleging corruption in the recruitment process of at least two departments -- LDC posts in GMCH and Junior Engineer posts in PWD.
