MARGAO
Vendors of the Margao Municipal owned Gandhi market kept a date on Thursday as they all headed to the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium for the wedding reception of the son of deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar.
In fact, the hustle and bustle in the Gandhi market in the commercial capital came to a halt throughout Thursday as the vendors all headed to the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukhejee stadium to partake in the wedding of Agaonkar’s son.
The deputy Chief Minister is the president of the Gandhi Market Vegetable Association and the vendors, who have been the close supporters of Ajgaonkar over the years, all decided to close their business to make it to the stadium on Thursday.
In fact, some of the vegetable vendors pointed out that they had all decided to attend the wedding reception of Ajgaonkar’s son given that the deputy Chief Minister had always treated them as his very own family members.
Customers, who were not aware of the decision taken by the vendors to shut shop were caught unawares.
When the customers from the city and surrounding areas came to the market as usual for the daily purchases, they were taken aback to find the vegetable and fruits stalls all shut down.
It was only later that realization dawned that the vegetable market is shut down not because of the shortage of vegetables coming into the state, but because all the vendors had gone for the wedding reception, leaving the customers to head to other markets such as the PDA market.
