OLD GOA
As garbage bags were found floating in the River Mandovi, suspicion was raised in some quarters that the same could have been the waste from the Old Goa feast fair.
A Divar local, Vinod Chari, who operates crocodile trips along the stretch of Old Goa leading to the Cumbarjua canal, has alleged that the waste from the Old Goa feast fair has been dumped indiscriminately in the River Mandovi.
“There is likelihood that garbage bags were dumped during low tide due to which it washed downriver but then the garbage bags found its way back during high tide,” Chari informed The Goan.
Chari has also made a video of garbage bags floating in the river and he has alleged that the waste is from the Old Goa feast fair.
When contacted, Se Old Goa Sarpanch Janita Madkaikar denied that waste from the feast fair has been dumped in the river.
“The waste from the feast fair has been collected so that the same could be sent to the Saligao plant for treatment,” Madkaikar informed, while questioning the veracity of the claims that the waste is from the feast fair.
