Gaonkar speaking for people of Goa: GFP chief

Gaonkar speaking for people of Goa: GFP chief

MARGAO

Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai has said that admission by the Goa Legislative Assembly Ganesh Gaonkar that the three-day Assembly session is too short shows that the Speaker is not speaking only for himself or the Opposition, but speaking for the people of Goa.

Sardesai said that even BJP’s own MLAs and the Independents who sold their voice for the promise of development know three days are nowhere near enough.

“The Speaker is speaking for the people of Goa — who are being denied their right to be heard through their elected representatives”, he said.

Saying that Goans are watching this government slowly choke the platform of representational democracy, the Goa Forward Chief said the people are getting frustrated and angry.

“Chief Minister, you are deciding the future of our State in secrecy.  Your government fears debate and believes it can escape accountability by cutting the session short”, he said.

He questioned the Chief Minister: “Have you forgotten that the same lack of accountability recently forced lakhs of students onto the streets?

Saying that the Chief Minister may try to run away from scrutiny, but cannot escape the people, Sardesai said Goa deserves answers, not a 3-day farce.
