Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar on Friday afternoon said that he will approach the court against both the no-confidence motions moved against him and the
Vice-chairperson Shashikant Parab at a special meeting held on Friday .
“Only 13 councillors have voted and one vote was invalid. This made the final count to 12 votes which does not prove the majority of the council. We are 25 council members and the majority figure has to be 13 and not 12. They must have 13 valid votes to topple me and the decision given by the presiding officer is wrong and I will challenge it in the courts,” said Gaonkar
“As far as the no-confidence motion against the Vice-chairperson was concerned, I had demanded voting by secret ballot, but the presiding officer said that counting will be done by show of hands. We had clear information that one councillor was pressurized to vote against us and the same was indicated after finding a vote marked by pen despite being provided a marker. This was invalid vote and confirmed our doubts of pressure to vote against me. That is one reason why I had insisted on ballot for passing no-confidence motion against Vice-Chairperson but the procedure no such procedure was adopted. I will challenge this decision too in court,” added Gaonkar.
