Garbage collection gets dumped in Moira

Unable to find a way to fix the garbage problem, Moira Panchayat on Sunday decided to postpone the door-to-door garbage collection decision to a later date.
Although Moira Communidade had gifted land to the panchayat to set up a treatment plant, the panchayat failed to act as the government demanded Rs 18 lakh to set up the plant.
On Sunday, Sarpanch, Santosh Chari informed the Gram Sabha that the panchahat has decided to ignore the government demand and go ahead and build pits to treat garbage on the communidade land which is in their possession.
“Once we put the basic garbage treatment mechanism in place, we will begin door-to-door garbage collection in Moira,” Chari said and assured to take proactive steps on garbage.
In the last Gram Sabha held in August, the sarpanch had said that the panchayat would soon begin door-to-door collection of garbage from all wards in the village.
The panchayat also decided to conduct a survey of number of tenants staying in the village and impose one month’s rent as tax on those who have rented rooms to such tenants.
A decision to register all domesticated animals which includes cattle, dots, cats, etc, was also adopted by the Gram Sabha on Sunday.
The bio-diversity committee of the Moira Panchayat met before the Gram Sabha began and decided to create an inventory of various flora and fauna existing in the village. The committee also decided to invite the department officials concerned to train the committee members on the issue.
