MARGAO
Will the three MLAs, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai and Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco attend the ordinary meeting of the Margao Municipal Council on Thursday, which amongst other issues is expected to deliberate on the burning waste issue?
The three MLAs, who are all invitees for the Margao Municipal Council meetings, given that they represent the areas coming under the Municipal jurisdiction, have never attended the MMC meetings during the last four years. In fact, none of the three MLAs have ever attended a meeting of the Council, though the Vijai-Digambar duo, who once controlled the Council, used to go into a huddle with their City Fathers before every meeting.
Councillors in the know say the MLAs should attend the Thursday meeting of the Council to better understand the garbage crisis staring at the commercial capital and efforts to address the situation have not borne any fruit till date.
Ruling as well as opposition councillors pointed out that given the extent of dry waste problem facing the city, especially on identifying land to set up the baling machines, the local MLAs should help the Council in finding a way to address the burning issue.
Sources in the know say that the Council is expected to deliberate on the baling machines and the absence of land to set up the machines in the jurisdiction of the civic body.
With the famous Dindi festival just four days away, City Fathers and officials in private say the MMC is indeed facing an uphill task to keep the city clear, with waste and litter now found dumped at the nook and corner of the city.
NOCs for power connections in Gandhi market likely to figure at meet
MARGAO: Will the contentious issue of NOCs for electrical connections for sopo payers in the Gandhi market figure at the Thursday meeting of the Margao Municipal Council?
Though the meeting agenda is silent on the contentious issue, which hit the headlines after the Gandhi market vendors led by Rajendra Ajgaonkar, brother of Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar, held the Chief Officer Sidhivinayak Naik hostage last week, sources in the MMC said the issue may come up for discussion as any other business item.
Sources said the MMC may discuss applications of two Gandhi market vendors at the Thursday meeting seeking NOCs for the electric connections, even though the City Fathers remained tight lipped on the issue figuring at Thursday’s meeting.
