MARGAO
A group of retail fish vendors from the SGDPA retail market obstruct the first meeting of the newly-constituted SGPDA chaired by MLA Wilfred D’Sa, to protest over the non-availability of water in the fish market.
Led by the president of the Margao Fish Vendors Association, Felix Gonsalves and a lady fish vendor, Fatima, the vendors tried to convey to the new PDA chairman about the hardships being faced by the fish vendors in the retail market for want of water supply.
The new PDA chairman tried to reassure the agitated fish vendors to work out a solution before proceeding with the meeting.
Fish vendors later informed that the retail fish market, which was renovated on the lines of the Dubai fish market during the tenure of the outgoing body headed by Dr Renuka Da Silva, has faced water scarcity since the last five days.
They pointed out that the vendors had to fetch water from the adjoining shops and stalls, wondering what sin they have committed that must have forced the authorities to stop water supply to the market.
The fish vendors demanded that the PDA immediately restore the water supply to the fish market before the situation goes out of control.
