Bhalachandra Jarkiholi, state chairman of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), the producer of Nandini brand of milk has stated that the milk major is taking initiatives across the state to procure more milk from across Karnataka and border areas.
He also informed that supplies of milk and milk products to Goa will be increased soon by converting the Belagavi and other units in the state into mega
dairies.
Jarkiholi, the MLA of Arabhavi in Belagavi district was on September 1 unanimously elected as the chairman of the Rs 130 crore milk major KMF.
“With more than 600 milk dairy units across the state as its members, KMF is the second largest milk cooperative in the region after Amul in Gujarat. Apart from converting the Belagavi unit into a mega dairy, we are initiating measures to procure one crore litres of milk from across the state to enhance supply to Goa and Maharashtra,” he said seeking cooperation from the farmers in the region.
He also stated that the expansion of the units in Belagavi, Dharwad, Shivamogga, etc will also increase employment opportunities for the rural youth.
Stating that due to its high quality, KMF has garnered decent profits while the milk industry is suffering losses, he urged farmers to supply good quality milk and warned officials to be vigilant so that no compromise is made in this regard.
Earlier, KMF Belagavi unit managing director Ubeidullah Khan welcomed the dignitaries, while manager Dr G R Manneri briefed about the Belagavi unit’s progress. KMF directors, members and farmers from across Belagavi were present.
