Garden waste collection in Penha-de-Franca shortly

Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has stated that the Porvorim Yuva Welfare Trust (PYWT) will collect garden waste from houses in Penha-da-Franca panchayat every month, after claiming that the local panchayat had not shown interest in collecting the waste.
He was addressing a gathering after launching the work to hot-mix the roads in Housing Board colony. Others present at the event were ZP member Gupesh Naik and members of Penha-da-Franca panchayat.
Khaunte informed that work of sewage system is going on in Porvorim constituency in full swing.
“The sewage system in Housing Board colony, Patrakar colony, Pundalik nagar and Torda have been completed. Hence, hot-mixing the 7.42 kms stretch of roads in these areas is being undertaken by the PWD at a cost of Rs 2.42 crore,” said Khaunte.
“As and when the sewage system in other areas is completed, the hot-mixing of those roads will also be done,” he added.
Turning his attention to the garbage collection system in the area, Khaunte said, “Since the Penha-da-Franca panchayat has not shown any interest in collecting garden waste, the PYWT has decided to collect garden waste on the first Monday of every month.”
“Garbage will be collected from houses and residential buildings in the jurisdiction of Penha-de-Franca panchayat. Residents should collect and keep their garden waste in their respective compounds, to enable PYWT to collect the waste,” said Khaunte, in an appeal to residents.
Khaunte also highlighted the difficulties faced by senior citizens in Pundaliknagar and Patrakar colony due to the closure of a road near Sai circle.
“Residents travelling from Panjim who alight at the Sai circle bus stop have to walk right up to Hotel Majestic and then cross the highway to proceed to Pundalik nagar. I request the GSIDC to remove the sheets near Sai circle immediately and create a passage at least for the pedestrians proceeding to Pundalikagar,” said Khaunte.
