Cabinet Minister Govind Gaude has justified the State government’s decision to implement the amended Motor Vehicle Act which imposes severe penalties on traffic violations.
“The government has taken steps for the safety of people. From a safety point of view, strict fines are required,” justified Gaude. “We see rash driving, youngsters are engaged in racing and risky driving thereby endangering lives of people, students not wearing helmets and many people not wearing seat belts. These violations will be reduced with the fear of high fines and people will automatically adhere to traffic rules,” said Gaude.
Meanwhile, motorists began rushing to Pollution Under Control (PUC) centres across the State to get PUC certificates for their vehicles, in a bid to avoid being penalised.
The police and RTOs have begun a strict implementation of these new MV fines on Friday, collected over Rs 4 lakh in fines after booking 611 cases. Authorities have appealed to motorists to adhere to rules and to avoiding any altercation with law enforcement agencies.
Ponds, wells should have railings, side walls, says Minister
PANAJI: Cabinet Minister Govind Gaude has demanded the construction of railings and protection walls around ponds and water bodies to ensure public safety.
Commenting on the recent drowning of two kids in a pond at Karmale in Keri-Ponda, Gaude said open pits, wells and ponds should have a railing or protection walls so that people don’t accidentally fall into these water bodies.
In this connection, the minister appealed to landlords to give permission for construction railings and protection walls around ponds in their properties.
