The officials also measured the area developed by Goa Tourism Development Corporationto place the detailsbefore the NGT by April 17, before the next
hearing scheduled on
April 19.
Goa Foundation convenor Claude Alvares placed before Bhonsle the 2006 photographs of Baina beach to show the existing wall and condition of the beach at that time and also the photographs of 2010, showing the changes that took place at the beach.
As per the documents provided by Alvares, Bhonsle directed the CRZ officials to measure the developed area and prepare a report to be submitted to NGT.
Speaking to The Goan, Bhonsle said they have received an order from NGT to demarcate the existing retaining wall.
“The CRZ officials will mark the existing retaining wall and the developed area and submit the report to NGT by April 17,before the next hearing scheduled on April 19,” he said. Bhonsle added that CRZ will implement whatever directions are given to them by NGT.
Alvares said NGT has directed the GTDC and the two complainants to visit the site and verify where the existing wall and developed area carried out by GTDC.
“The condition set by CRZ to GTDC to carry out Baina beach development is that development could take place only from
behind the existing wall,” said Alvares.
Alvares added that the expert team has to find out whether the development of Baina beach is carried out from behind the existing wall and place it before
the NGT. “The project is full of confusion. There is no approved plan and GCZMA has
to mark the existing wall on the approved plan,” said
Alvares.
