GCZMA gets two weeks as ‘last chance’

The National Green Tribunal has remained dissatisfied with Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority which has claimed to have reported compliance to the Tribunal over the demolition of private beach shacks in the ‘No Development Zone’, and offered the authority a final chance of two weeks to ensure that all private shacks and huts are demolished as their licences remain cancelled.

When the matter came up for hearing before NGT, GCZMA member secretary Narayan Gad filed an affidavit claiming compliance of NGT’s orders. However, petitioner Aleixo Pereira asserted that the directions have not been complied with, which amounted to disdainful conduct and 
utter disobedience.   
“The affidavit is silent about compliance to all our directions… which had to be done by the authorities,” NGT observed, noting what they called was a lapse on the part of t
he authorities.   
The NGT has given GCZMA another two weeks to ensure that all shacks in private property are demolished.

NGO challenges Quelossim project, Tuem aquafarm

The Goa Foundation has filed two separate petitions at the Bombay High Court at Goa, one challenging the Investment Promotion Board’s in-principle approval to the Mini India Park sought to be built on marshy lands in Quelossim village, while another seeking the cancellation of licences for a shrimp aquaculture farm at Tuem citing pollution.
