Agonda tourism operators are attempting to build pressure on the government to stall the most feared would-be disaster for tourism in Canacona -- the scheduled demolition order of GCZMA.
Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes led a team of stakeholders to meet Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Sunday evening at CM’s official residence at Altinho, Panaji. Also present was Goa Forward Party (coalition partner of BJP-led state government) spokesperson Prashant Naik.
The delegation was told to strictly adhere to the NGT order and at the same time assured that the state would legally represent the matter.
Chief Minister categorically informed that the state government (through its AG) will intervene in the matter in an effort to minimise the losses to the tourism operators at the turtle nesting sites including Agonda.
Interestingly, while only the political block of Canacona BJP met the Chief Minister with the same representation, around 30 of the aggrieved tourism operators to be affected by GCZMA demolition orders served to around 64 stakeholders, accompanied Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes to plead for government intervention.
While five demolition squads under five magistrates have been formed to undertake the massive demolition drive, 15 bulldozers/earthmovers are also requisitioned. A massive contingent of police personnel will remain present to thwart any possible hindrances.
