Mustifund Aryaan Higher Secondary School (MAHSS) was born ut of a tie-up between Prabhudesai and Mustifund Saunstha. Currently, the institute has 74 students studying with it. “With great teachers, new opportunities, wide avenues and a value based systematic course structure, an Aryaan student develops a wholesome personality with a positive outlook and the confidence that he/she can handle and tackle anything that life has in store for them,” boasts Prabhudesai adding that results over the years has confirm the same.
Vyankatesh Prabhudesai had a dream of training Goan talent for IIT JEE Advance, IIT JEE Mains, BITSAT, VITTEEE, MIT, AIIMS, NEET exams, he went on to build the Mustifund Aryaan Higher Secondary School (MAHSS) which is a well-known education institute in the state and attracts the brightest minds who want to excel in their field of study.
The journey began in 2004 when Prabhudesai started the Aryan Study Circle with a month-long crash course for about 100 students. The coaching center completed its first regular batch in 2006 and in the same year it produced two ranks at the IIT JEE Advance. Since then, many students from the coaching institute have qualified in various competitive exams and went on to attend the country’s premier institutes.
“Our mission is to provide positive impulse to every child to enhance his/her inherent learning ability through innovation and novel learning techniques. At our school, the uniqueness of each child is recognised, nurtured and treasured. Our stress is on learning and not on teaching. Our sincere effort is towards equipping our students with life skills to face the real world be it planning, organising, questioning, reasoning, analysing, team building, communicating effectively or dealing with challenges confidently,” states Prabhudesai.
Prabhudesai recalls his own experience as a student while preparing for admissions for IIT-Bombay
Sharing his own story from his student life and how hard a task it was for him to get guidance and training in his home state when he answered the entrance exam, passed it on his own merits and got admission in the prestigious IIT Bombay, Prabhudesai says, “I had to walk an extra mile before I could even tell myself that I am going to make it to the IITs.”
There was no mentor, no reference books and no internet in those days. But he did not deter. Unshaken from his strong will, he continued and made it to the institute. With a background of BTech from the IIT-Bombay, ME from the prestigious IISc, Prabhudesai became a DAAD Fellow (Germany), before taking up the task to impart his knowledge to others and stir up an educational revolution in Goa. Such was the driving force behind the vision of a man who left a successful career as a scientist working at NAL for over a decade.
“I dreamt of starting an institute to train students to crack the prestigious exams like the IIT JEE Advance, IIT JEE Mains, BITSAT, VITTEEE, MIT, AIIMS, NEET etc. Thinking of setting up an institute like this was nothing short of a challenge, especially at a time when a decade ago, a student from Goa qualifying in any of the entrance exams to the premium engineering and medical institutes of the country was only a distant dream,” admits Prabhudesai.
Since then the journey started, step by step. Deterred to stay back and contribute to his motherland, Prabhudesai’s initial struggles subsided and slowly the institute of his dreams began taking shape.
MAHSS aims to develop its students as global citizens with tolerance, respect and appreciation of diverse cultures for a life-time learning experience. The effort is towards making them self-motivated, independent and confident decision makers to take up leadership roles in future.
Explaining the difference between his institute and regular schools, Prabhudesai says, “At MAHSS, the school curriculum has been painstakingly planned on scientific guidelines to provide students with intellectual stimulation, physical robustness, social adaptability, emotional independence and leadership qualities. Creativity and imagination make children grow up to be productive adults who then arrive as citizens of the world ready to make their own great contribution to mankind.”
Quoting Albert Einstein, “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulation progress, giving birth to evaluation,” Prabhudesai shares the pledge he took - of providing the necessary environment to nurture, also to provide an outstanding education and inspire his students to engage in both, academic and enriching extracurricular programmes.
“Academic excellence with personality development is our ultimate goal,” smiles Prabhudesai.
Those who were appearing JEE Main this year, in 2019 got two chances and eight of our students secured above 99 per cent, with Jaiprakash Gurav getting 336/360 which was unprecedented. The second in line is Deep Dessai with rank 830, Naivedya Amarnani (rank 857), Abhishek Pai Angle (rank 2317), Rahul Shanbhag (rank 2433), Laxman Desai (rank 4913), V Nikhilesh (6197), Nivedan Amarnani (rank 8150), Shrav Desai (rank 9845) and Trusha Neogi (rank 11,135).
