The GCZMA’s site inspection report had given the project a thumbs up after examining the plans which indicated that the renovation project does not show any extension or expansion of the original structures. “Overall the project looks good and commits to maintain the original outlook of all the structures of the jail. The project does not show any extension or expansion beyond the original area, so there is no doubt for recommending it,” the GCZMA noted.
“The members decided to ask the GTDC to conduct a rapid EIA study for the proposed project and submit the same to the authority. The decision regarding the application would be taken upon submission of the rapid EIA report,” the GCZMA noted. The Master Plan for developing the jail into a tourist destination includes creating activity zones, viewing galleries, amenity zones, tourist information centers, improvement of temple and chapel areas, improving the prison cells, prison corridors, walls, pathways, seating, water fountains, illumination of the jail campus, café and improvement of the aquifer duct area.
GTDC’s plan includes bringing to life Goa’s freedom struggle through sound and light shows and paying tributes to the heroic deeds of those who sacrificed their lives for Goa’s Liberation.
...exploring legal opinion on banning
sale of NDZ lands to non-Goans
The newly constituted Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority has decided to legally explore the possibility of imposing a ban on sale of land falling in the ‘No Development Zone’ or houses to non-Goan communities.
In the CRZ notification, NDZ areas as described in the CRZ Notification, 2011, are from 0-200m from the coast and 0-100 m from the NDZ of the bank
of the rivers and areas along the estuaries
and creeks.
