GEDA signs deal for solar electrification of rural homes

PANAJI

Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) has inked a deal with a private firm for installing solar home lighting systems in homes in remote areas of Goa which for logistical and location issues have remained without electricity thus far.

GEDA member-secretary signed the deal with Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).

The agreement required CESL to install solar PV systems. The company will also be responsible for the maintenance of all the systems it installs for five years.

The project has been launched under the Remote Village Electrification (RVE) programme of the State government.

A CESL official said, energy access is a basic necessity for development and Joglekar added that it is a step towards Goa's transition to a green energy state.

GEDA works across Goa to promote cleaner energy including solar, and also efficient lighting.
