The Tika Utsav vaccine drive took place in Chimbel on Friday with 133 beneficiaries turning up for vaccination at the Old Age home premises and plans are afoot to start a vaccination centre at Merces shortly.
Speaking to The Goan at the end of the vaccine drive, Chimbel PHC Medical Officer Dr Jude D’Souza expressed happiness over the response, but at the same time appealed to more people to come forward.
He said the Chimbel PHC has an added advantage as it has four centres where vaccination is underway.
“We are undertaking vaccination at the PHC in Bambolim, the Old Age Home in Chimbel, the Santa Cruz health centre and at Caso do Povo in Taleigao. There are plans to start a vaccination centre at Merces soon,” he added.
“Those who have still not taken the vaccine should come forward so that all eligible persons for the 45 plus category get vaccinated,” Dr D’Souza said.
“The need of the hour is to create awareness among the eligible beneficiaries and clear their doubts,” the doctor stated.
“The aim is to complete the vaccination programme for the age group of 45 plus. After that, we would be in a better position to conduct vaccination for the 18-plus age category,” Dr D’Souza said.
