GenNext accuse PMC of ‘labour’ racket

PONDA

GenNext has accused Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) of misappropriation by releasing payments to labourers on fictitious names.

Addressing a news conference, GenNext State president, Durgadas Kamat, along with GenNext Ponda Block President, Subhash Sirsat, has asked PMC to come out clear on the issue within 15 days, failing which they will file a complaint with the vigilance department.

“There is a racket going on in PMC with regard to labourers. We have learnt that payments were withdrawn in the fake names of labourers. The council should come out with a white paper on this, as the amount runs into crores of rupees,” Kamat alleged.

According to Kamat, about 400 names are fake in the labourers list and he claimed that the labourers had never worked on the field.

“The Goa Human Rights Commission has also taken cognisance of our complaint against workers, who are forced to stay inside garbage dumping yard at Kerye-Khandepar. The hearing is scheduled on June 16.”

GenNext has demanded that the government should come up with a proposal for a truck terminus on PPP basis for the trucks parked along the bypass roads, which has become a hub of crime.

“This would also curtail the haftas paid to certain officials,” he stated.
