GenNext: Mopa airport a massive land scam
THE GOAN NETWORK
MARGAO
Seeking to know whether the proposed Mopa airport will turn out into a massive land scam, GenNext president Durgadas Kamat said the Mopa airport will have the distinction of being the first airport in India where the State government will not be a part owner with the Civil Aviation Ministry indicating that the local government will not hold any stake in the proposed airport.
Addressing the media, Durgadas said that GenNext has learnt that the Goa government will not hold any stake in the proposed airport at Mopa. “Not being shareholders is indeed surprising as land is being given by the Goa government. Around 381 acres of land with a super FAR of 2.5 has a value of Rs 3000 crore. Also the balance land of 1890 acres (76, 46, 940 sqmts) has a market value of Rs 61,000 crore. As Goa government is giving away prime land for the project, it has to be shareholders in the project and profits have to accrue to the State,” he said.
Saying that the project of national importance is now sought to be converted by the BJP government as a money spinner for the developer, Durgadas said, “When conceived, the project was to be built on 1500 acres of land, on around 6069000 sqmts. Today the government seeks to hand over 2271 acres to the developer. That is 9188466 sqmt of land will be given to the private developer which means a whooping 3119466 sqmts of extra land.
