Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai has said that the regional party stands with former Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, Justice Ferdino Inacio Rebello, in his campaign to protect Goa’s ecology.
In a statement, Sardesai said the situation is serious, pointing to the conversion of three lakh square metres of private forest land in Arambol and large-scale hill cutting.
“This is not development, it is destruction,” he said.
He demanded that the BJP government explain why such land conversions are being allowed.
Sardesai also questioned why the government is not assessing the State’s capacity before approving projects.
“Real development must ensure that there is no harm to the environment now or in the future. We must protect our hills,”
he added.
