Residents of Nuvem and Verna are up in arms over the decision of the PWD to erect road dividers on the old NH66 road, leaving no access at the Rumder road intersection to proceed towards the Rumder-Pateapur-Verna road.
The residents also demanded that the government de-notify the old NH66 passing through Nuvem village since the national highway traffic has already been diverted on the Western bypass. They pointed out that de-notification of the old NH66 will give adequate accesses to the village roads and in particular the Rumder Intersection and Nuvem Church Junction.
The residents assembled at the Rumder road intersection on Tuesday evening with a plea to keep the access at the intersection to facilitate the people to proceed towards Rumder-Pateapur-Verna road.
Former village Sarpanch Pausilipo Dourado told the media that by closing this road intersection, there would be a lot of hardships faced by the residents of Kumder, Belloy, Anus, Pateapur and Verna, besides institutions like Sister's Adores Convent, Divine Retreat Centre, The Village Wedding Hall and Froggy land Water Park. “All these areas are located on this road. Moreover this is defined as the village as vehicular traffic is now diverted on the western bypass”, he said.
Dourado further informed that the PWD Minister Digambar Kamat has inspected the sites highlighted by the residents and hoped that appropriate decision will be taken by the PWD to the satisfaction of the people.
