GFP welcomes BJP chief’s decision to contest Fatorda seat

MARGAO

The Goa Forward Party has welcomed BJP state president Damu Naik’s decision to contest the 2027 Assembly election from Fatorda, saying it will work to ensure a fourth consecutive victory for party chief Vijai Sardesai in the constituency.

Addressing the media, Goa Forward spokesperson Vikas Bhagat said the party leadership was ready to debate with the BJP state president on the development work carried out in Fatorda by Sardesai over the past 15 years.

“We cannot help if Damu Naik cannot see the development work carried out in Fatorda by Sardesai since 2012. We accept Damu’s offer for a debate on the development work in Fatorda, but it should be based on facts and figures,” Bhagat said.

Saying that the Goa Forward chief was now taking up issues not only of Fatorda but of the entire state, Bhagat claimed that people across Goa were looking at Sardesai as a future Chief Minister.

“We are ready to debate with Damu Naik on any issue. We also welcome Damu’s decision to contest the 2027 Assembly election from Fatorda,” he added.

Former Margao Municipal Council chairperson Pooja Naik said she and several others had won the 2015 municipal election on the Fatorda Forward panel due to the support extended by Sardesai.

“People voted for us because we were all supported by Sardesai. People had faith in Sardesai’s leadership because of the work he had done in the constituency,” she said.
