The long-awaited dream of affordable housing for hundreds of families became a reality on Thursday with the distribution of Goa Housing Board (GHB) allotment letters at New Vaddem,
Vasco.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant led the ceremony in the presence of Transport Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho, GHB Chairman and Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar, senior officials, public representatives
and beneficiaries.
A total of 544 tenements have been allotted under the GHB project, marking a major step in the government’s affordable housing initiative. In the first phase, around 150 beneficiaries received their allotment letters, while the remaining letters will be handed over in stages.
Godinho described the occasion as a historic moment for Vasco and Dabolim, saying the project was not just about buildings but about providing dignity, security and permanent homes to families who had waited for years.
He thanked the Chief Minister for supporting the project and requested a waiver of GHB charges, stating that most beneficiaries belonged to economically weaker sections. He also urged the government to consider providing the homes free of cost to reduce their financial burden.
Responding to the appeal, Sawant announced that beneficiaries would have to pay a maximum of only Rs 10,000 towards GHB charges. He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing affordable housing to
deserving citizens.
Arolkar said the GHB would continue to focus on transparent, quality and affordable housing projects and assured that the remaining allotment letters would be distributed soon.
