Under pressure to create jobs amid a steep increase in the unemployment rate in the state, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday unveiled a new strategy to broad base the employment options in state government service.
Speaking to reporters at the State Secretariat on Wednesday, Sawant said that the Goa Human Resource Development Corporation had been instructed to empanel prospective candidates so that they could be absorbed in vacant posts in government service until they are filled permanently.
"We have been trying to train human resources in Goa through the Goa Human Resource Development Corporation in jobs related to security, housekeeping, MTS (multi-tasking staff), LDC (lower divisional clerk), driver posts," the Chief Minister said.
"We have said that candidates should be empanelled so that whenever there is a requirement in a government, whether it is a leave vacancy or a vacancy in itself, empanelled candidates can be recruited till the filling of the permanent post," Sawant also said, adding that more jobs would be opening up at the Corporation in itself.
The Chief Minister's assurance comes at a time when the unemployment rate in the state is peaking and Sawant himself has agreed that lack of jobs is a matter of concern in Goa, which heads to polls in early 2022.
The announcement also comes at a time when the Aam Aadmi Party is nipping at the heels of the state government over pre-poll assurances related to the employment sector, assuring transparency in government recruitment, one private-sector job per family and unemployment doles for youth without jobs.
