Heavy downpour inundates roads in commercial capital

MARGAO

Heavy showers on Wednesday evening inundated busy roads at Old market and near the Nehru stadium, disrupting vehicular movement.

A portion of the road stretch from Old market circle to the KTC bus stand was flooded with rainwater accumulated along for want of adequate drainage facility.

Waterlogging was also prevalent on the Nehru stadium road on Wednesday evening, coming in the way of the smooth flow of vehicular traffic.

Locals pointed out that these two busy roads had witnessed flooding during the monsoons due to inadequate drainage.

“At least the heavy showers at the end of the monsoons will open the eyes of the authorities, including the PWD and the Margao Municipality to put a drainage system in place to prevent waterlogging in the next monsoon,” remarked a local.
