Monsoon withdrawal delayed

PANAJI
Rains including thunderstorms are expected to linger on in Goa and the monsoon will extend beyond the usual withdrawal date of mid-October, the Met office has said.

According to the Met office, the monsoon in the country however has begun withdrawing from the Northwest much later than the usual benchmark of mid-September for the phenomenon.

So far, Goa has already received nearly six per cent more rain this monsoon than its normal annual average.

According to the press statement of the Met office, an anti-cyclonic circulation has established itself in the lower tropospheric levels over the western parts of northwest India thus triggering the withdrawal of southwest monsoon on October 6 against the normal date of September 17.

It said the monsoon has withdrawn from pockets in west Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat.
