MARGAO
Exuding confidence of making a clean sweep in minority-dominated Salcete in the Zilla Panchayat polls, Congress President Girish Chodankar has said the Congress has decided not to ally with the parties which are members of the BJP-led NDA and parties whose leaders sing praises of BJP Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
He, however, hastened to add that the Congress has entered into a tactical understanding with the MGP in constituencies where the Congress doesn’t have a strong footing with the sole purpose of defeating the BJP.
Without taking names of the Goa Forward and NCP leader Churchill Alemao, Girish sought to know how can the Congress have a tie-up with parties which are members of the NDA and leaders who shower praises on the Chief Minister.
He said the Congress will leave certain seats in Shiroda, Sanvordem, Madkai, Priol, Pernem to other parties where the party is not so strong.
Saying that the Congress will sweep Salcete in the coming election, Girish said people just want to avenge the BJP’s decision to form the government in 2017 without having a mandate and to set the stage for the return of the Congress to power in 2022.
“People of Goa are just waiting to teach the BJP a lesson and Salcete is no exception. People have not forgotten how the BJP had come to power against their mandate in 2017,” he added.
He promised that the Congress would devolve powers to the Zilla Panchayats as per the 73rd Constitutional Amendment when it comes to power in 2022.
