It’s a sordid tale you would not want to hear, and definitely not on Friday when women across the State and the world were honoured to mark the International Women’s Day: The women’s police station booked a group of four friends and arrested two of them for allegedly raping a 20-year-old girl in turns.
Gaurish Gaddi and Suraj Shetye were arrested by the Women’s police station. The duo has been remanded to seven days police custody by the Bicholim judicial magistrate. The main accused in the case and a fourth accused involved are however absconding.
Sources in the women’s police station said the victim girl’s statement has been recorded in which she has accused the four of raping her in turns between February 22 to 27. The victim’s complaint was recorded on March 5.
Based on the victim’s complaint, a case has been booked against the four under sections 376 (rape), 343 and 506(2) of the Indian Penal Code. While Gaurish Gaddi was arrested on Wednesday, Suraj Shetye was nabbed on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Gaurish has filed for bail before the North Goa Sessions Court which has fixed it for hearing on March 12.
