Girl claims was forced to drink disinfectant by 2 unknown men

MARGAO
An 18-year old girl has complained to the police that she was restrained by two unknown persons while she was riding her two-wheeler at Guirdolim and was forced to drink a disinfectant solution after she refused to part with her vehicle.

The incident has triggered outrage with Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat demanding the intervention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to ensure the arrests of the culprits.

Maina Curtorim police informed that the 18-year-old girl has complained that she was restrained at a speed-breaker near the football ground by two unknown culprits on Tuesday morning while she was proceeding to work at a beauty parlour in Guirdolim.

Police said the victim has claimed that the duo forced her to consume the disinfectant solution after she refused to part with her two-wheeler.

While the victim girl was later rushed to the hospital, Maina-Curtorim PI Shivram Vaigankar has said the police have registered an offense against unknown persons and are investigating.

“We will interrogate the girl to find out the details. The police are also trying to get CCTV footage from the nearby establishments,” he added.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat said the incident is an alarm bell for safety of women in the State. “When the memories of the brutal gang rape and murder of a 19-year-old girl at Hathras in Uttar Pradesh are fresh in the minds of people, the incident in Guirdolim has raised serious questions over safety and security of women in BJP-ruled states,” he charged.
