Former Sancoale sarpanch and Zuarinagar panch Girish Pillai on Tuesday said the assurance of former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar to rehabilitate the Zuarinagar slum appeared a distant dream and a victim of political rivalry between him and Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha.
Pillai was speaking to reporters after inaugurating a park in his Ward on the occasion of his birthday, in the presence of Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar and other panch members.
"When we had gone to meet late Parrikar after he became CM, he had given me a file and assured that the entire slum of Zuarinagar would be rehabilitated and people would be given better housing facility with other clean amenities.”
“It has been three years since and no work has been taken up, despite local MLA Alina Saldanha being chairperson of Goa Rehabilitation Board herself," said Pillai.
“We don't get help from Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha. During elections, we assured a Zuarinagar market complex which is not completed since the last three years. No one is bothered and the incomplete structure is a den for anti-social activities," said Pillai.
"While development is not being taken in Zuarinagar, works are being taken elsewhere in Cortalim area. The MLA should not take revenge on people and deprive them of development because of political rivalry with me, because it is these people who have voted her to power twice,” said Pillai.
He said the Panchayat Ghar will be taken up with Panchayat funds and with the full support of Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho.
“We had recently met him and he has assured to take up work on the Panchayat Ghar and a garbage treatment plant," said Pillai.
