Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday confirmed that the notification issued by the state government including Covid-19 treatment under the Deen Dayal Swashtya Seva Yojana will be withdrawn.
Agreeing with the Health Minister, the Chief Minister insisted that inclusion of Covid treatment under the DDSSY umbrella was not necessary as the government has already created the required and efficient infrastructure. Reiterating the words of Health Minister, Sawant asserted that there was ‘no need’ for citizens to make a dash to the private hospitals for treatment unless they were in need of advanced facilities which were unavailable at the government-run hospitals.
Interestingly, CM Sawant sought to explain the publication of the notification in the official gazette by stating that the plan was chalked out in the month of March when Goa was scrambling to set up reliable Covid care infrastructure. He reasoned that the same was not applicable anymore with the state’s Health Department having set up state-of-the-art facilities at four locations to treat Covid-19 patient sin the state.
