The state’s Health Department on Wednesday recorded five Covid-related deaths including that of a one year old boy from Ponda.
The mortality bulletin states that the child passed away at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim after suffering a septic shock. He was suffering from chronic kidney disease with bilateral dysplastic kidney disease and was brought to GMC with urosepsis. Covid-19 infection was an incidental finding.
This is the second such case of an infant passing away due to prior comorbidities and complications arising from Covid-19. Previously, an eight month-old infant from Sirvoi in Quepem became the youngest to fall prey to Covid-19 in Goa. The girl child, who passed away on October 3, had lost her life within 16 hours of being admitted to the hospital. She was suffering from Glycogen storage Disease type III, an inherited disorder caused by the buildup of a complex sugar called glycogen in the body's cells and causing organ and tissue impairment.
With the inclusion of five deaths, the death toll in the state has touched 519.
The other deceased persons include a 63 year-old man from Madkai in Ponda, a 51 year-old woman from Sattari, a 65 year-old man from Candolim and a 76 year-old man from Chimbel. All these patients were suffering from comorbid conditions and passed away at GMC.
The total confirmed cases in Goa now stand at 39,438 out of which 4,188 are presently active while 34,731 have recovered. The recovery rate in Goa presently stands at 88.06 per cent.
