In a significant development, the Navelim Block Congress Committee on Tuesday conveyed a message loud and clear to newly-appointed GPCC chief Girish Chodankar that the Congress should nominate a Navelkar as the party candidate for the Navelim seat in 2027.
The committee has further requested the party chief that though many may want to join the Congress party, the application for membership of the party should go from the Navelim block committee.
A delegation of Navelim Block Congress Committee comprising of Block President Peter Coutinho, Melwyn Pereira, Orlando Dias, and NSUI State General Secretary Kumar Arjun Gauli called on Chodankar to congratulate him on his appointment as President of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee.
The committee members stated that Chodankar assured full support to strengthen the Navelim Block Committee, reiterating that the block would be consulted in important decision-making processes. They said Chodankar further emphasised that new members should work through the block committee to strengthen the organisation, without expectations of ticket assurances.
Block Secretary Melwyn Pereira told the media after the meeting that the delegation impressed upon the party president that though many may like to join the Congress, the joining process should go through the block.
