The mining dependents in Goa have opined that the central government should give priority to solving labour related issues, especially in the mining sector, rather than going full throttle on abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, and also, issues like Ramjanmabhoomi.
“The government in the last 100 days had no time to amend the law to solve the mining issue in Goa. But it showed enthusiasm in scrapping Articles 370 and 35A,” said Puti Goankar, president of Goa Mining People’s Forum (GMFP).
“If the hearing on Ramjanamabhoomi can take place on day-to-day basis, then why does not the government expedite mining related cases in the Supreme Court, Puti Goankar.
The Goa Mining People’s Forum has been protesting for last one year for early resumption of mining which has affected direct and indirect livelihood of lakhs of people in the state after the Apex Court of India banned mining activities in the State following filing of petitions by NGOs.
“The government has not taken any concrete step to solve the mining issue in Goa and mining dependents are still suffering,” said Puti Goankar.
He criticised the central government for what he termed total failure to deliver on employment, economic, labour and job generation issues.
There are figures that from the private sector around 1 million people have become jobless. The government needs to take decisions to boost industries. The government has to take some decisions, he added.
